The BJP has officially named Sanjay Tandon as its candidate for the singular Lok Sabha seat representing Chandigarh. Tandon, aged 60, replaces Kirron Kher, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Chandigarh twice, in 2014 and 2019. Tandon’s political lineage is notable; he is the son of former Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Das Tandon, a founding member of the Jana Sangh and later the Punjab chief of the BJP. Currently, Tandon serves as the party’s co-incharge for Himachal Pradesh.
Expressing gratitude for the nomination, Tandon thanked the party leadership for the opportunity to contest from Chandigarh. He brushed aside concerns about the INDIA bloc’s electoral challenge, highlighting the importance of political chemistry over mere arithmetic. Kirron Kher, acknowledging her replacement, extended her congratulations to Tandon on his nomination.
Having previously served as the Chandigarh BJP chief for nearly a decade, Tandon affirmed his longstanding commitment to the welfare of the Union Territory. He assured the people of Chandigarh of his dedication, promising to leave no stone unturned in serving them like family.
Tandon’s nomination reflects the BJP’s strategic move amidst a broader political landscape. The upcoming election in Chandigarh, slated for the last phase on June 1, will witness Tandon’s bid to secure victory for the party. With his extensive experience and familial political background, Tandon aims to elevate Chandigarh’s status and address the aspirations of its residents if elected.
Kirron Kher congratulated Sanjay Tandon on his homination.
