Comedian Munawar Faruqui nabbed in Mumbai Police hookah bar bust.

Comedian Munawar Faruqui was taken into custody by Mumbai Police over alleged consumption of illicit hookah.

Faruqui, known for winning Big Boss-17, was among 14 individuals detained by Mumbai police during a raid in south Mumbai, where they were found smoking hookahs.

However, Faruqui has since been released by the police.

The Mumbai Police’s Social Service Branch conducted the raid late on Tuesday night, concluding by early Wednesday morning.

“During the raid, police found stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and others smoking hookahs. They were detained but later released as the charges were bailable,” a senior police official informed PTI.

The police observed that some individuals in the hookah bar were smoking tobacco-based hookahs disguised as herbal ones.

Faruqui and others were charged under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, as well as IPC sections 283 and 336, related to endangerment and obstruction in a public place.

Mumbai Police issued notices to Faruqui and others, releasing them shortly afterward.

Before his participation in Bigg Boss 17, Faruqui gained fame for winning the ‘Lock Upp’ reality show. He emerged victorious in the 17th season of Bigg Boss by defeating co-contestant Abhishek Kumar.
