Tamannaah Bhatia and Sanjay Dutt have been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in connection with an illegal IPL streaming case involving the FairPlay app. Both actors are requested to appear for questioning, with Sanjay Dutt having requested a rescheduled date due to prior commitments.
Tamannaah and Sanjay Dutt are reportedly linked to the promotion and endorsement of FairPlay’s subsidiary app, Mahadev betting app, implicated in the illegal streaming of IPL matches.
She has been asked to appear before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on April 29, while Sanjay Dutt was previously summoned on April 23 but requested a new date due to his unavailability.
More than 20 influencers, including Bhatia and Sanjay Dutt, who endorsed the FairPlay app, are expected to be summoned for statements. The case highlights the broader issue of illegal streaming and its financial ramifications, exemplified by Viacom18’s reported loss of over Rs 100 crore due to the unauthorized IPL broadcasts.
The case stems from a complaint by Viacom18, asserting their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) over IPL streaming. FairPlay’s unauthorized streaming allegedly caused substantial financial losses to Viacom18. The investigation has previously involved questioning several prominent figures in the entertainment industry, including Badshah, Jacqueline Fernandez, and now Tamannaah Bhatia and Sanjay Dutt.
