Eid al-Fitr 2024: Date and time in India, along with its historical significance.

Eid, also known as Eld-al-Fitr, is one of the grandest festivals in the Islamic religion, celebrated on the first date of the 10th Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. This jubilant festival marks the end of the month-long fasting period during the holy month of Ramadan. This year, Eld-al-Fitr, also known as Meethi Eid, is anticipated to be observed on Thursday, April 11, 2024, contingent upon the sighting of the moon.

It holds special significance in Islamic tradition as it signifies the conclusion of Ramadan, a month of spiritual reflection and devotion. This year, Ramadan commenced on March 11 and is expected to conclude on April 10 or 11, depending on the lunar sightings.

The date for Eid ul Fitr in India relies on the sighting of the crescent moon, typically a day after the new moon. This year, Eid-Al-Fitr in India is projected to fall on either Wednesday, April 10, or Thursday, April 11.

With its roots firmly entrenched in Islamic tradition, the festival embodies the essence of the five fundamental pillars: almsgiving, the Hajj pilgrimage, faith, fasting, and Zakat. Its origin traces back to 624 AD when Prophet Muhammad initially established its observance. Commemorating the Prophet’s victory in the Battle of Badr, Eid emerged as a symbol of celebration, marked by communities expressing their joy through the sharing of sweets. Over time, this sweet Eid has evolved into an annual observance preceding Bakrid, symbolizing the culmination of Ramadan and gratitude towards Allah for the Quran.

The festival holds significance as it marks the conclusion of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting in Islam, observed by Muslims worldwide. Ramadan, derived from the Arabic word ‘ramida’ or ‘ar-ramad’, meaning ‘scorching heat’, is one of the five pillars of Islam, alongside faith, prayer, almsgiving, and pilgrimage.

Eid-al-Fitr, meaning “Festival of breaking the fast,” is celebrated with joy as people wear new clothes, prepare special delicacies, engage in charitable acts, and exchange greetings of Eid Mubarak with family and friends.
